Installing Marquee Lighting around the stage for Originator Productions

Project Overview

For the Netflix Comedy Special filmed at the Paramount Theater, stage lighting was designed to define the performance area while maintaining a sleek, professional appearance. Originator Productions contacted Belfer to set the stage for an original Netflix comedy special with Stavros Halkias.

Belfer’s MQ2502 Marquee Lighting in Black Powder Coat was installed around the perimeter of the stage, framing the front edge with a bold, even glow.

This installation enhanced visibility for performers, created a strong architectural line on camera, and reinforced the theater’s historic yet modernized style. Installation photos highlight the straightforward setup process, showing how easily the MQ2502 fixtures integrate into a live event environment.

Why the MQ2502 Marquee Lighting?

The MQ2502 Marquee Series delivers high-output, energy-efficient illumination with a compact form factor designed for theaters and performance venues. The black powder coat finish allowed the fixtures to blend into the stage when off, while their glow framed the performance space with precision during the show.

  • Easy Installation: Modular fixture design simplifies setup, documented in installation photos.

  • Reliable Performance: LED light engine built for demanding entertainment environments.

Installation Highlights

Enhancing Broadcast + Streaming Production

For televised and streaming performances like the Netflix Comedy Special, lighting is as important to cameras as it is to audiences. The MQ2502 Marquee Lighting played a key role in:

  • Framing Performers On-Camera: A glowing stage edge provided definition on wide shots and close-ups alike.

  • Improving Depth Perception: Perimeter light helped cameras separate performers from the background.

  • Maintaining Consistency: LED dimming ensured flicker-free lighting at any output, critical for broadcast recording.

  • Elevating Production Value: The stage perimeter glow gave the final video a polished, high-production aesthetic.

Technical Specifications

  • Fixture: MQ2502 Marquee Lighting

  • Finish: Black Powder Coat

  • Mounting: Surface-mounted along stage perimeter

  • Light Source: Integrated LED, dimmable

Lux Theatre Banff AB

Marquee Lighting at the theater at Lux Cinema in Baniff Canada

The opening of the Lux Theatre in May of 1913 marked the beginning of a new entertainment era in Banff. Constructed in the years before either radio or television was available, the theatre screened features, comedies and newsreels which would bring the world to this small mountain town. Patrons would enjoy musical productions while film reels were changed, courtesy of an early victrola machine that played vinyl records.

The Lux theatre is thought to be one of the first cinema houses in Alberta to screen movies with fully synchronized sound in 1930. The films incorporating synchronized dialogue were known as "talking pictures" or 'talkies'. Then came Technicolor, a trademark process known and celebrated for its hyper-realistic, saturated levels of color film. These innovations increased audiences for the movies and contributed to the sustained popularity of Banff's Lux Theatre.

Affectionately known as "The Lux", the existing local landmark opened in 1989 and has four separate theatres that provide daily screenings of popular new releases. The theatre also hosts feature evenings to showcase Canadian and foreign films, documentaries and special interest productions. The Lux remains a popular destination in Banff, especially for the Tuesday evening ticket deals and live broadcasts from the Metropolitan Opera in New York City.

C.L. Hoover Opera House

C.L. Hoover Opera House, Junction City, KS

The C.L. Hoover Opera House was originally constructed in 1882 through the initiative of local citizens who sought to bring cultural events only rarely encountered in the Midwest. The original theater included an orchestra level, a balcony, a gallery, and three levels of box seating for a total capacity of over 1000 seats. Lighting came from gas chandeliers. In 1890, the building underwent interior remodeling with electric lights installed. In 1919 the Opera House was remodeled again and productions included live theater as well as new motion picture “talkies”. In 1942, a full renovation transformed the Opera House into a modern movie theater, showing motion pictures until it closed in 1982.

The renovation and re-launch of the C.L. Hoover Opera House in 2008 filled the need in Junction City for a cultural venue in which to meet, hold events, and perform concerts and theatre. After a $7 Million restoration it is open again as a state-of-the-art performing arts and civic center. Today’s C.L. Hoover Opera House is a multi-use facility for performing & visual arts presentation, business & professional events, educational & cultural opportunities and civic activities.
