Indiana University in Bloomington is nationally recognized for its commitment to the performing arts, live production, and academic excellence across theater, film, television, and concert performance. To support the demands of student performers, faculty, and visiting professionals, Belfer Lighting provided custom MQ2502 Marquee Lighting solutions for the university's theater dressing rooms, film and television makeup spaces, and concert performer prep spaces.
The challenge of any high-use backstage environment is straightforward — energy-efficient LED solutions with built-in safety and protection features are essential in spaces where the pace is relentless, the activity is constant, and the need for reliable, flattering illumination never stops. Belfer's MQ2502 Marquee Lighting system was designed precisely for this environment, delivering the performance professionals depend on while protecting the performers who rely on it.
Dressing rooms at a major performing arts university are among the most demanding lighting environments in any building. They must tame the chaos of dressing rooms filled to the brim with costumes and gadgets, accommodate multiple users simultaneously, and deliver accurate, shadow-free illumination for makeup application, costume fitting, and performance preparation — all without compromise on safety.
The MQ2502 energy-efficient LED system addresses every one of these demands. Permanently fixed lamp guards around each exposed lamp protect performers and crew from accidental contact with bulbs — a critical safety feature in fast-moving backstage areas where hanging costumes, props, and personal equipment create constant potential for impact. The result is a lighting environment that is as safe and organized as it is bright and flattering.
The MQ2502 2x2 Surface Mount Medium Base Marquee Lighting fixture by Belfer Lighting is a purpose-built dressing room solution that combines Hollywood-style illumination with the safety and durability required for professional and educational performance venues.
Belfer's MQ2502 Marquee Lighting Fixtures with Lamp Guards illuminate the Binda Theatre at Kellogg Community College, delivering a dynamic and professional-grade lighting solution that merges performance durability with visual appeal.
Designed to enhance the theatre’s backstage dressing areas, these fixtures bring vivid illumination, refined architectural presence, and dependable protection for high-traffic educational environments. The addition of lamp guards provides safety and longevity, ensuring fixtures retain functionality and aesthetic value in demanding applications.
The installation highlights Belfer’s capability to deliver tailored architectural lighting systems that support both functionality and design excellence for performance venues.
The MQ2502 is part of Belfer’s marquee lighting series—an iconic, modular fixture designed for interior and exterior architectural lighting. When combined with Lamp Guards, it becomes ideal for theatre applications, offering a blend of protection, adaptability, and performance.
For the Binda Theatre project, Belfer’s MQ2502 fixtures with Lamp Guards provided several key benefits:

Elegant design meets functional illumination in this video teleconference environment, where clarity and comfort are essential. The lighting design uses Belfer MQ2502FX Field Curvable Marquee™ Lighting—seamlessly concealed within the ceiling cove above the conference table—to create uniform, glare-free illumination across the workspace.
The field-curvable design allows the lighting to follow the architectural geometry of the ceiling, providing a refined, continuous glow ideal for high-performance visual settings like video conferencing rooms and executive meeting spaces.
Perfect for integrated ceiling designs, the MQ2502FX offers flexibility and control—delivering luminous continuity that enhances both aesthetics and functionality.

The Porter Neuroscience Research Center at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland, is a cutting-edge facility designed to advance the study of brain science and foster cross-disciplinary collaboration. With a focus on transparency, openness, and modern design, the Center’s expansive lobby and open-plan public spaces serve as both a welcoming hub and a symbolic core of innovation.
To meet the challenges of high-ceiling architecture and the need for visually comfortable, energy-efficient lighting, Belfer Lighting’s Reflex RX1320 indirect LED system was specified and installed throughout these key areas.
The RX1320 indirect LED fixture by Belfer Lighting is engineered for architectural integration in spaces where light quality and visual comfort are paramount. At the NIH Porter Center, these fixtures were mounted in custom-designed columns to illuminate the expansive lobby and connecting atrium spaces.
The indirect distribution of the RX1320 provides a soft, diffuse glow ideal for large, open environments—reducing harsh contrasts and complementing the facility’s natural daylighting strategies.
