Project: U.S. Department of Commerce, Herbert C. Hoover Federal Building
Washington, DC
Custom LED Lighting Retrofit and Refurbishment
Belfer Lighting proudly designed and manufactured historic replica lighting fixtures for the Herbert C. Hoover Federal Building, home to the U.S. Department of Commerce in Washington, D.C. This project required lighting solutions that respect the building's architectural significance while incorporating modern performance and energy efficiency.
Working closely with preservation architects and project teams, Belfer Lighting refurbished the original fixtures or created period-accurate replica fixtures, when needed to maintain the building's historical character. Our team undertook the meticulous task of retrofitting the original copper incandescent lighting fixtures (built by hand in the 1930's by the WPA) with energy-efficient LED sources. The craftsmanship involved in polishing the original fixtures and refurbishing all glass and copper elements showcased our commitment to quality restoration. This project not only enhanced the building's historic charm but also ensured that its integrity was preserved. Each fixture blends precise craftsmanship with durable materials and advanced lighting technology.
